FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about capturing, annotating and sharing with CatchScreen.

What is CatchScreen?

CatchScreen is a screenshot and annotation app. Capture an area, a window, your whole screen or a long scrolling page, mark it up with arrows, shapes, text, highlights and blur, then copy it or save it as a PNG or JPG.

Does CatchScreen record video?

No. CatchScreen is made for screenshots only — still images you can annotate and share in seconds.

Which platforms does it run on?

The Mac app (Apple Silicon) is in early access. A Windows app is coming soon. You can use the web editor in any modern browser today, and a Chrome and Edge extension is in early access.

How does automatic scrolling capture work?

In the Mac app, choose Scrolling Capture and select the area you want — for example an article or a chat. CatchScreen scrolls that area for you, step by step, and joins everything into one tall image. It stops at the bottom, or whenever you click Stop & Edit. If the page is unclear (for example it keeps changing), it pauses and tells you instead of guessing.

Are my screenshots uploaded anywhere?

No. Screenshots are processed on your own device. CatchScreen doesn't upload them, store them on a server or send them to any service. They stay in memory until you copy, save or close them.

Why does the Mac app ask for Screen Recording permission?

macOS requires this permission for any app that takes screenshots. Despite the name, CatchScreen never records video — it only reads the screen at the moment you take a screenshot.

Why does automatic scrolling need Accessibility permission?

macOS only lets an app scroll other apps with Accessibility permission. CatchScreen uses it for one thing: scrolling the area you selected. If you'd rather not grant it, you can scroll by hand instead.

Can blurred or redacted details be recovered?

No. When you copy or save, blurred, pixelated and blacked-out areas are replaced in the image itself — the original details aren't hidden underneath.

Which file formats are supported?

You can open PNG, JPG and WebP images, and save as PNG or JPG at the original size. There are never any watermarks.

When is the Windows version coming?

Windows is coming soon. We'll make it available once a Windows build has been fully tested.

Who makes CatchScreen?

CatchScreen is made by Voixity and is part of the Voixity Suite of Business Solutions.
